I am currently collaborating with Joni Renee on a photo essay project entitled “Couples” that highlights the intimacy and normality of gay and lesbian couples. This is an image from the first couple, Shelly and Erin, that we interviewed and shot today. Shelly and Erin met in seminary and are currently living in Vancouver Washington. Shelly is an Episcopal priest and pastors a local church. Erin does research and development for a human and civil rights organization and on the side often volunteers helping the homeless and the poor.
I am really excited for this project and am really excited to see what I learn and experience through it. Joni recently met the editor of PQ Monthly Magazine and pitched the whole project idea to her and she seemed really enthusiastic about it. I’m excited to see where it all leads.
